Life of a Blogger - Introvert or Extrovert

My good friend, Jessi, over at Novel Heartbeat has just started this awesome new feature as a way for her followers to get to know her better!  Check out the list of upcoming topics here.

Today's topic is: introvert or extrovert?  I would say that I'm definitely an introvert by nature.  I'm incredibly shy in new social situations, especially if I don't know anyone.  I'll often wait for people to come up to me, rather than take the initiative and approach strangers.  I dream of one day attending BEA and meeting some of the bloggers that I've interacted with online, but there's a part of me that knows I'd be painfully shy in such a situation!  This is something that I'm definitely trying to work on, since I know that I CAN be more outgoing.  If I'm in a situation where I feel more comfortable, then I can definitely be my bubbly self, but it does take me a little bit to feel comfortable.

What about you?  Are you a shy person or more outgoing?  Leave me a comment below!

  1. I'm the same. I'm incredibly introverted, and I prefer to stay in my room than go to parties or out clubbing. My family thinks it's weird for a 21 year old. I'm also very shy, and am so bad at having conversations with people that I don't know that well. I get very uncomfortable, especially when it comes to small talk!

  3. I'm so incredible introverted. And I'm like you, in new situations, I'm shy and very, very quiet. Also in group settings. Even with my family, when we all get together for holiday celebrations, I'm so quiet. But one on one, or perhaps in a group of two I'm a lot more comfortable.

  4. I'm the same! New people are hard for me to socialize with, but I'm quite more outgoing with my two BFFs. I really want to go to BEA, but the crowds and meeting people has me nervous!

  5. I think there should be a new classification for those of us with introvert personalities, but extrovert tendencies. I can definitely say I'm a lot like you -- I dream of attending BEA (or even ALA when it comes to Vegas), but I'm not a very social person, and would be terrified of talking to people! I think it would be a lot of fun and an interesting experience, but you don't really know how TRULY awkward you are until you're meeting someone for the first time that you've known online for a long, long time. :B Also, the crowds at BEA. I'm not sure I could handle being packed so tightly in!

  6. Introversion is a lot more than just being "shy". I'm an introvert but I can also be one of the most outgoing people in the group. Introversion definitely joins with shyness and a lot of introverts are shy but that is not the main characteristic of the personality. Introversion means that being around people drains you of your energy, whereas extroverts get energy from other people. You know those people who ALWAYS talk and seem to never need a moment alone, or in fact, despise being alone? Yeah, they're extroverts.
As for me, I can be outgoing, I can talk and talk and talk and then sometimes even while still out I hit a brick wall and clam up. I suddenly want to be alone because I no longer have the energy to deal with the situation I'm in.
It also means you think before you speak, and when you don't and people tease or take what you say badly, it is the WORST thing in the world and makes you want to just DIE because you realise if you'd taken a moment to think, that would never have happened.
Of course, not saying you're not an introvert as you probably are, but just saying there's more to introverts than just being shy! :)
Great topic and I love this feature idea!

  7. I am an introvert too! I used to think I was more of an extrovert just because I don't like staying at home, but I realized introversion doesn't mean you're shy but that your energy gets drained when you hang around people too much. That being said, I guess I am more of an introvert. It looks like most of us are! :)

Just discovered your blog yay! I'm a new GFC follower :D

  8. Ooohh, if we can work BEA out I'll have to get you out of your shell! I'm not outgoing with strangers, but we can be awkward together :D
